A Smart Approach To Building Quality Backlinks

If there was just one component of SEO you could use, then if you were smart you would choose backlinking. If you have any hope at all to be the recipient of organic search traffic, then that step cannot be ignored. Not all backlinks are equal, so if you desire to stay out in front of your competitors, then you should do this part of SEO the right way. Online marketers who are just starting out make the mistake of using ineffective link building methods that don’t give results. The cure for this is to become educated as much as possible, and then making a careful marketing campaign that includes SEO/backlinks. Most marketers are only concerned about the backlink, but if you get high quality backlinks you can get some traffic, too.
We strongly advise against doing any link exchanges or reciprocal backlinking because they do not have the weight they once had. Backlinking is not hard, rather it can be boring, but we’ll share some good suggestions you can begin using immediately.
The golden rule of quality link building is relevance. We have all seen sites and blogs that linked to sites on different topical themes. Search engines have to satisfy their customers, and the way they do that is by delivering the most relevant returns for a given search query. Ok, same concept, but the thing is that your backlinks will give you more link juice when they originate from same theme sites. The way it works is that you will need less links if they come from relevant sources. However, it will be worth your time to always try to backlink from relevant sources. There’s a bit of a debate about only getting dofollow backlinks because of the PR value, but if you want to look natural to Google, and you do, then get both. Just in case you don’t know, the dofollow backlinks allow Google Page Rank (a calculated number) to be passed from the site through the link to your site. Page Rank can be passed along or not if they website owner tells Google’s spider by using the nofollow or dofollow operators in the hyperlink code. Those are several concepts and terms you must understand if you’re new and want to learn SEO. Don’t worry about getting nofollow links because Google knows it is not natural to “only” have dofollow. If you want, you can use plugins with Mozilla browser to check for no/do follow, or you can find tools online that are free to use.
Another somewhat underused method is to conduct contests because if you promote the contest you can get highly targeted anchor text links that are one-way back to your website or blog. The only real concern, but that’s only if you get a ton of backlinks using this method, is that you could generate too many links all with the same anchor text.
In short, link building takes time and effort before you see some real results. So don’t quit if you don’t reach page one within a week. If you stick with it, however, your site will get a high ranking and your traffic will increase.
